Since the beginning of 2024, the office of the University Alliance for Applied Sciences (HAWtech) has moved from Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences to Esslingen University of Applied Sciences: The Rector of Esslingen University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Christof Wolfmaier, will take over the position of HAWtech spokesperson from Prof. Dr.-Ing. Frank Artinger, Rector of Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences, and will represent the interests of the university alliance over the next two years.

The coordination of the HAWtech office will be based at Esslingen University of Applied Sciences until the end of 2025. The heads of the six universities elected Prof. Dr. Annabella Rauscher-Scheibe, President of HTW Berlin, as deputy spokesperson at their meeting on February 14, 2024 at Esslingen University of Applied Sciences. One of the new spokesperson's main aims is to continue and strengthen the alliance's existing contacts and networks. "HAWtech has developed into an important voice in the higher education policy environment. Thanks to our good connections to a large number of colleges and universities throughout Germany, we are a benchmark for all relevant topics in the university environment," emphasizes Prof. Christof Wolfmaier. The successful joint collaboration in the areas of teaching, research, technology transfer and further education will continue.

The promotion of projects in the STEM field is also more urgent than ever in view of the existing shortage of skilled workers: "Universities of Applied Sciences address the most pressing issues, trends and tendencies in our areas of life thanks to their good networking with science and industry. We need creative and well thought-out solutions to meet the demand for skilled workers. This expertise is urgently needed to change our social transformation processes for a long-term and sustainable economy," says the new spokesperson. The technical and practice-oriented integration of HAWtech universities in teaching and research, as well as the international networks and cooperation projects, make the universities valuable “innovation centers”.

Esslingen University of Applied Sciences would like to stand out in particular for its commitment to the advancement of women and also promote this within the HAWtech universities' federation.

Another HAWtech conference is firmly on the agenda for 2025, which will highlight a current topic from the fields of science, business, politics and society.
